As a product commonly used in power system construction, pin type insulators have many functions that are welcomed. What are the specific functions?


Pin type insulators mainly have the following properties:


1. Electrical function: The destructive discharge that occurs along the surface of the insulation is called flashover, and the flashover characteristic is the primary electrical function of the pin type insulator. Regarding different voltage levels, the withstand voltage requirements of insulators are different, and the purpose is power interference, wet-withstand voltage, lightning impulse withstand voltage, lightning impulse chopping withstand voltage, operation impulse withstand voltage, etc.


To avoid breakdown during operation, the breakdown voltage of the insulator is higher than the flashover voltage. In the factory test, the breakdown type porcelain insulator is generally subjected to the spark test, that is, high voltage is applied to cause frequent sparks on the insulation surface, and after a certain period of time see if it is broken down.


2. Mechanical function: Insulators are often affected by the gravity and tension of the wire, wind, ice weight, insulator's own weight, wire oscillation, equipment operation mechanical force, short-circuit electric power, earthquake and other mechanical forces during operation. Relevant regulations have strict requirements on mechanical functions.


3. Thermal function: Field insulators are required to have the function of withstanding drastic temperature changes. For example, porcelain insulators require several cycles of cooling and heating without cracking. Due to the current passing through the insulating sleeve, the temperature rise of its parts and insulating parts and the allowable short-term current value must comply with the relevant regulations.
